Join us for APHE’s annual national conference, featuring speakers from around the world. This year’s conference will provide participants with professional networking opportunities and presentations that will motivate and inspire our work in this important field. This is the national conference for humane educators!

2024 Conference Locations

APHE's 2024 Conference will be taking place in the heart of downtown Buffalo, NY, at the Aloft Buffalo Downtown April 24-26, 2024.

Our annual APHE Dinner and Nathania Gartman Heroes Award presentation will take place from 6-9pm on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at Bijou. This trendy, vibrant restaurant is located .2 miles away (a 5-minute walk) from the hotel.

An optional excursion to the SPCA Serving Erie County will take place in the afternoon on Friday, April 26, 2024.

2024 Conference Hotel Information

APHE encourages 2024 conference attendees to reserve rooms at the Aloft Buffalo Downtown, our official conference hotel and venue!

Reserve a room using our discounted group rate of $159 plus tax for a Double Queen or Single King room April 21-April 27, 2024:

The last day to reserve a room using our group rate is Thursday, March 21, 2024. Please note, we do expect our room block to fill.  Due to our conference location there are several other hotels to consider nearby!

The Aloft Buffalo Downtown is a 7-minute walk from a light rail station.

What to expect at the Aloft Buffalo Downtown?

Set in downtown Buffalo, the Aloft Buffalo Downtown at 500 Pearl Street provides access to restaurants and is close to many popular areas including the Theatre District, Chippewa, Allentown and Elmwood Village. This beautiful pet-friendly hotel breaks the mold of a traditional hotel and uses technology to enhance the guest experience. The property includes meeting space, sauna, free WiFi, fitness center, indoor pool, bowling alley and more.

Who typically attends the APHE National Humane Education Conference? 

Attendees from all over the world! Our 200+ registrants hail from both sides of the hemisphere.

Attendees include humane educators from a variety of backgrounds who promote humane attitudes toward people, animals, and the environment.  This includes, but is not limited to, anyone who teaches animal welfare, animal rights, animal behavior, environmental education and literacy, social justice, character education, cultural studies, and any combination of the above.

The conference allows staff and volunteers of animal shelters, animal care and control agencies, zoos, museums, park districts, schools, colleges, universities, and other local, regional, and national entities to learn and share together.

The Association for Animal Welfare Advancement

APHE is an approved provider of content which enhances professional competence and aligns with the CAWA Exam specifications.

National Animal Care & Control Association (NACA)

This conference has been approved for Continuing Educational Units by NACA. National certificate holders can submit for credit consistent with the NACA CEU policy.

Our 2024 conference T-shirts will be available for pre-order here! Shirts are $17 for members and $20 for non-members. T-shirts must be picked up in person at the conference - at this time, shipping is unavailable.
